The Political Art of Amir Normandi

by tdaxp ~ February 11th, 2006

I was browsing something else when I came across this at One Free Korea:

support_denmark_md
No tolerance for intolerance
No apology for being free
No Burka for the West. Support Denmark

I’ve been falling the cartoon controversy, and by clicking on the link I found Angantrys Hjorne.

And from that, this:

amir_normandi_nude_with_veil

Well, this too:

ayatollah_assumes_zionist_plot

But one’s sexier than the other.

(Notthat all of the girls here are as sexy as such as Lebanese protest babes or playmate kajira — indeed, the gallery has a Dove “real beauty” feel to it –but as I and others have been threatened with death by , if not killed, I’m erring on the side of Danish solidarity.)

There’s more. It’s political

    Actually, Islam means “submission”.

  8. Imran Hisham

    Islam or 'Salaam' means peace.
Islam or 'Sallim' means submission. Please refer to the Arabic language for more clarification. They all come from the same original word.

  9. Blake

c'mon now. let's keep religion and politics out of this, and just keep posting hot Iranian women naked on here for my viewing pleasure.

    Michael/John/Sirona,

Thanks for presenting a calm, reasoned and studied face of Islam to the TDAXP BlogNiche.

  18. Dan tdaxp

In order to address Sirona's, John's, and Michael's concerned, I've decided to provide “equal time' for Israeli, Jewish, and Zionist girls.

I trust our detractors will now agree that either tdaxp is not trying to spoil the reputation of Islam, or at least is attempting to sully all Semites equally

    Ali from Tehran,

Thank you for the reasonable, intelligent comment. I appreciate feedback, and I am that Iranians are able to discuss these things.

I do not know the ethnicity of his models, though it appears that one but not all of them is black.

I appreciate the secular defense of Iran's laws, but I think it is problematic. I strikes me that prostitution is at least as likely to produce illegitimate children as immodest dress, but Iran (and her neighbor Iraq) have legal this service. [1]

Is the desire to dress conservatively a desire of individuals or of the state? If individuals wish to be modest, that is wonderful. [2] But when the state forces them to be modest, then that is no real modesty at all.

  20. Ali from Tehran

Well as an Iranian I must say, its a nicely workedout propaganda.
First The girls are not Iranian. They are black. And we dont have blacks in Iran as far as I can remember.
Second as against your conception we do not wear Burqas. Burqas are worn in Afganistan and some areas in pakistan.
Third we will continue to dress conservatively and no we will never bocome promicuous sexually pathetic people like in west, by the how many people in west Know their real fathers?
    DO YOU?

  21. purpleslog

I think you are on to something re the Satantic Verses, though I speak of the novel by Salman Rushdie.

All I know is that when I tried to read through it many years ago, I began having urges to both pound my head down hard on the study tables that I sat at and to search out beer.

Hmm…maybe we understand Ayatollah Khomeini incorrectly. Maybe he was just a very powerful literary critic?

  22. purpleslog

Mr. Devil…you are on the side of the Muslims then? I just want to make sure I understand your logic.

  23. Dan tdaxp

    Purpleslog,

Like a poster reading “¡Solamente Inglés! ¡Vota por Tancredo!”, Devil's comment is bewildering. Is the Lord of Flies protecting Islam because it is his blasphemous creed, or does even Beelzebub shudder at infidelity? Perhaps the Great Tempter is merely vain, and is hoping for the day when we will all read the satantic verses [1] as if they were written by al-Ilah before Time?

    Dan,

I was familiar (perhaps too familiar) with the helloziyi web site dedicated to one of China's finest exports. Her cuteness is off-the-charts. The web site even has a special “cuteness” gallery, which I find unnecessary since it is impossible for Zhang Ziyi to not look cute. I don't get too much into the politics of it, (although I think the Chinese are up to something) but Zhang Ziyi can star in a remake of Plan 9 from Outer Space and I would still pay to see her.

  32. Dan tdaxp

If she's a mole, Zhang Ziyi has been effective. I can never forget her in “Hero,” A websit[1] was noticed by John Derbyshire [2], and, I'm sure, many others.

I was first surprised by how many non-political Chinese I know were upset at her for making Memoirs of a Geisha. But then, when I think that I have been deprived of another Hero/Flying Daggers because Ang Lee and her made American movies… . *grrrr*

    But that face. [3] I can't stay mad her… :-)

  33. Sonny

    Dan,

One of my favorite ones appeared last summer in Newsweek. They had a special report on “China's Century” and in the cover they had Zhang Ziyi. If they would've had Hu Jintao on the cover I wouldn't had even looked twice at the magazine…but they lured me in with Zhang Ziyi. BTW, if you can have a post on China feautiring Zhang Ziyi I would appreciate it. Adding Zhang Ziyi to any product = a better product (film, magazine, blog, etc…)

Now, is Zhang Ziyi part of some devious 5GW scheme by the Chinese? She already caused some disturbance in Japan with her protrayal of a geisha. Also,Zhang Ziyi is already implanted in the minds of countless Americans including many service members…Hmmm…

  34. Sonny

    Dan,

It would be kind of cool to put that banner (love the placement of the letter “p”), however, that would be a not-to-subtle (very 2GW) approach to the issue; you don't want to Maxim-ize your site. I propose a more indirect approach, like when you had the Lebanese protest babes. You can have some discussion on Middle Eastern politics and you subrepticiously throw in a protest babes (or any babe) gallery to illustrate your point. Or you can have a discussion on Asian politics and attach a Japanese car show babe gallery. Still, more babes = better tdaxp. Keep up the good work.

  35. Chirol

    Dan,
Hard to resist that new banner over the current one.

  36. Dan tdaxp

    Sonny,

That's the approach the Economist has been using. I give them props. [1]

As to Maxim-izing — at least I won't be Equireizing. I bought the newest issue for the Barnett article “Monks at War,” but (despite its marketing) Esquire is not a men's magazine. It's a FASHION magazine. That Lady of tdaxp loves it convinced me that it's the Coyote Ugly of magazines (“Hey, look here at the strapless shoulder — pay no attention to the mind-numbing clothing gibberish that makes up the other nine billion pages.”)

    Chirol,

Your mission: playboy bunny or jav idol. Downtown Sioux Falls. The Zip Feeds Tower. Combine those three, and the banner must change. ;-)

  37. Chirol

I'm still waiting for the tdaxp cheerleaders!

  38. Sonny

    Dan,

I love your theoretical discussions on 5GW and such, but I think that more babes = a better tdaxp. I checked out your “Babes” section and it was a real morale booster.

I don't think that Islam is a joke, but the fact that practioners of this “religion of peace” have killed people and burned buildings over a cartoon that appeared in some obscure (to most of the world) Danish paper, certainly is ridiculous. I wish they could muster the same energy to actually rebuild their societies.

  39. Tyndl

united states society and culture is an upside down pyramid based on a single point of “morality”. amazes me how it can continue to exist. but maybe, perhaps it is because of it's diversity or personal freedoms or richest shareholders in the world .. all 3, some or none of the above .. don't know. but I do know that women and men have the ability to be erotic no matter what their covering type (or what their covering). just don't think it's a big deal. i sense that if the people of the US disrobed entirely for a least a year, you'd all get over this obsession with nudity and consider that eroticism is truly an art form to be admired and not drooled over.

    my 2¢

  40. ahmad

you even don't worth that I post you a comment
    asshole

  41. Dan tdaxp

    Cheerleaders? Babes? a better tdaxp?

Here's to you, Chirol and Sonny. A proposed new banner ;-)

Next week, TR Reid, the author of “The United States of Europe,” will come to UNL. Part of his argument is that Europe is a more open society, and doesn't generate the animosirty of the United States.

    It will be interesting…

  42. MOMO2007

It is very selfish and irrational to make a monckery of other cultures and religion. This is not a freedom rather egotism, racism and prejudice. To expose skin and promote nudity is not a sign of civilized society but sexism and moral degradation.

  43. ayatollah

bastard jew israel bastard not iran israel respect bush bastard islam mullah jihad penish fuck fuck you jew.

  44. brandonpatrick

Eroticized. Perhaps. Commodified is my read. I think the very existence of the Burqa is erotic. And judging from the amount of wacko sexual-devastation it wrecks upon those societies, I'm thinking it signifies an awful lot of sexuality that needs beating down and breaking.

The kinds of anxieties the Burqa produces in Muslim countries is pretty much maximized. Men are men everywhere. And I know, when I see a Burqa, my first thought is, “I wonder what's under the hood?” – but instead of, as is the case with Uncovered women, this flicker-thought dies as soon as it is born (unless other cues seek to enforce it) it is nothing but a momentary, instinctual, even unconscious, preverbal, and ulimately, fleetingly and immediately resolved question. Not so with the Burqa. It is alluring surface. For males, it energizes these primal, evolutionary drives and causes them to linger – forever. As men the world over know men everywhere. It also engenders in us the kind of distrust that is INEXTRICABLE and UNAVOIDABLE that becomes enshrined in the laws of more repressive cultures. I don't give a damn whom you pray to or how many times a day you do, knowing that other men, as yourself, below cultural and religious development, biology drives pathways that are constantly surveying the sexualized gender-landscape. Pray for chastity, and fecklessly claw away at the inextinguishable need for visual cues that the Burqa prohibits, but know that the razor-thin, violently enforced social norms that keep the highly artificial muslim family afloat, that these are in turn the strategy of brutal repression reflected in the laws of muslim countries laws that are designed by men, who know their hereditary drives – to lift the onus from our own sexual-histories – and crucify women upon their own feelings of inadequacy.

Eroticized? The burqa is already eroticized, it is a sexualized, black hole. A deadly, free-floating, arbitrary, sexual event-horizon.

It needs to be commodification. This is a good strategy – as commodities allow for substitutes, and substitutes are the reservoirs of cultural change. And, as any social worker/anthropologist can tell you, if you want to change the society, change the women. Even the most brutal, legalistic, insane tyranny balks at killing its own mothers, and when they do, when they cross that line, not for nothing is it safe to say that they have forfeited their humanity for something more base.

    Hi there,

While wanting to do some more research ehm following the link on Israeli celebrities in a previous posting I found that google had blacklisted the site as containing malware and so it does. Kaspersky reports a trojan on the site as it has probably been hacked by some unhappy individual. I recommend you post a warning in the thread with the links to that site.

    Cheers
