“When we’ve been here ten thousand years…
bright shining as the sun.
We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise…
then when we’ve first begun.”
– Amazing Grace (as sung by Sufjan Stevens)
“Nor is it to be thought (ran the text as Armitage mentally translated it) that man is either the oldest or the last of earth’s masters, or that the common bulk of life and substance walks alone. …. By Their smell can men sometimes know Them near, but of Their semblance can no man know, saving only in the features of those They have begotten on mankind; and of those are there many sorts, differing in likeness from man’s truest eidolon to that shape without sight or substance which is Them. “
– The Dunwich Horror, HP Lovecraft
“A tornado of sheer monstrosities seemed to be pouring over Ransom. Darting pillars willed with eyes, lightning pulsations of flame, talons and beaks and billowy masses of what suggested snow, volleyed through cubs and heptagons into an infinite black void. ‘Stop it… stop it,’ he yelled, and the scene cleared.
“They were taller than the Sorns, the giants whom he had met in Mars. They were perhaps thirty feet high. They were burning white like white-hot iron.”
– Perelandra, C.S. Lewis
“We pried into the secrets of heaven, but found it filled with steadfast guards and blasts of fire. We would sit and quietly listen, seeking knowledge of the Divine, but whoever listens now will find a blaze of fire lying in wait for him. And we have no idea whether God intends ill or redemption for those who dwell here on earth.”
– The Jinn (Koran 72:8-10)
“‘You will not surely die,’ the bright one said to the woman. ‘For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.'”
– The Fall of Man (Genesis 3:4-5)
“Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation?
Tell me, if you understand.
Who marked off its dimensions? Surely you know!
Who stretched a measuring line across it?
On what were its footings set,
or who laid its cornerstone-
while the morning stars sang together
and all the sons of God shouted for joy?”
– The LORD Speaks (Job 38:4-7)
“How you have fallen from heaven,
O morning star, son of the dawn!
You have been cast down to the earth,
you who once laid low the nations!”
– Isiah 14:12
“If God were your Father, you would love me, for I came from God and now am here. I have not come on my own; but he sent me. Why is my language not clear to you? Because you are unable to hear what I say. You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.”
– Jesus of Nazareth (John 8:42-44)
“Americans are not good at strategic thinking because our time horizons are too short and our chains of reasoning are too linear. We think end of quarter, end of day, range of the moment, hierarchy, chain of command, rigidly, categorical and compartmentalized, A to B to C. This makes us very adaptive in terms of tactics but you can win all the battles and still lose a war.”
– Mark Safranski
“To the degree that this ‘state’ is not scale-free, or is rigid or functions through linear paths, the interactions of those within it are also rigid, linear, unable to adapt to new parameters — at least, unable to adapt without also causing a change in the whole, or the ‘state.'”
– Curtis Gale Weeks

Recently, pre-wrath advocate Marvin Rosenthal wrote that the pre-trib rapture was of Satanic origin and unheard of before 1830. “To thwart the Lord’s warning to His children, in 1830,†proclaims Rosenthal, “Satan, the ‘father of lies,’ gave to a fifteen-year-old girl named Margaret McDonald a lengthy vision.â€
Dave MacPherson reviews the evidence against Darbyism in his book The Three R’s: Rapture, Revisionism, Robbery-Pretribulation: Rapturism from 1830 to Hal Lindsey. He considers Margaret MacDonald’s visions of 1830 to be occult influenced. He develops the theme in his books The Incredible Cover-Up and The Great Rapture Hoax.
From a theological perspective, the possibility that Satan started the, er, 5GW is interesting. But since I do not believe in a Satan, I’ll call the reference metaphorical. What interests me is the fact that a whisper in Margaret MacDonald’s ear has led us, only 176 years later, to broad acceptance of that message.
When Curtis calls it a metaphor, he is describing the theory as an analogy. An analogy is a “magic cloud” that lets us transform something in one context to another. Analogies let us build interpretive, intersubjective contexts that create meaningful quality and friction for us.
Without fricton, we would slip and slide meaninglessly through life. With friction, with metaphors and analogies, however, we gain the ability to act.
Analogies compete with each other, infecting our minds with their substance. Analogies that cannot spread from host to host, that are not viable, die. However, metaphors that give humans energy attach themselves like mitochondria to their human hosts. They can even become inseparable from the human condition.
Divine Beings as Bright, Hidden, Limited Forces is a very, very strong metaphor. The idea that our True Enemies and True Friends are formless, polished, and leading has been with us for at least thousands of years.
Thus, the idea of 5GWs as Demonic, or at least Divine, is intuitive to us. This may be appropriate, as a 5th Generation Ant-Religion should be enough to destroy a 4th Generation Religion — and the social reality it created.
The most successful 5GW movement, that is, the most successful Demonic Plot, in history has been modernism. Modernity hasn’t just led to a demographic implosion
Rapid aging followed by depopulation on a scale not seen since the collapse of the Roman Empire threatens the modern world, writes Phillip Longman, an American journalist. Buried inside his book is the startling forecast that America’s evangelical Christians will breed themselves into a position of global dominance. That idea horrifies Longman, who spends most of his pages hatching schemes to prevent this from happening.
In Longman’s view, modernity itself is to blame for the population debacle. “Those who reject modernity,” he argues, “seem to have an evolutionary advantage, whether they are clean-living Mormons, or Muslims who remain committed to large families.”
And just as Satan is the father of lies, Modernism is the father of deception: the false belief in simplicity and linearity and rigidity. Modernists have sought universal linear laws, similar to Newton’s Laws of Gravity, to explain our world. They have separated things into natural and supernatural, physical and biological, psychological and medical. Citizens of modern states like France and Soviet Russia, and users of truly modern programs like Microsoft Windows, know the consequences well.
The fruit of their work has been run down nations and declining populations. Their offspring (the Eastern Establishment in the United States, the Social Democrats in the United Kingdom, the Marxists-Leninists in Viet Nam) ruined the lives and hopes of their populations. Their liberal education tears apart folk, kin, and trade.
This does not mean we have to go back in time, but it is a recognition that what comes after Modernity will be profoundly un-Modern. From quantum mechanics to Conway’s Game of Life, economics to religious struggle, complexity is the focus of a new kind of society. Styles that abandon the quest for Zero Defect Policies, and instead focus on best evolved patterns (“traditions”). It’s not a coincidence that the height of Modernity, the 1970s, saw strange styles (aesthetic, political, etc) that have come back. The logical conclusion of Modernity is that tradition has no place in rational thought. In other words, a true modernist has to blind himself to empirical evidence of best practices.
America, as the Old Core country that least embraced modernity, as new the greatest nation to exploit post-modernity.
And we do so as the rest of the Old Core fade away and die.
