Thanks for the discussion on my book. My most recent work on popular views about Jesus is WHAT'S THE BIG DEAL ABOUT JESUS? I'd love to hear what you're up to now as well.

speculation: Dallas Theological Seminary graduates are almost uniformly very conservative on issues of gender, which may account for the weakness on that score here.

if the King James Bible was good enough for Jesus, it's good enough for me! ;-)

Sean,

If that's the cause, it's likely from the lack of perspective and peers (needed for the construction of rationality on a subject) than the conservative environment as such. An advantage of the blogosphere is that one has to defend oneself from so many perspectives, making one (slightly more) comfortable with controversy and able to find the weaknesses in beliefs. I see that the author has an Amazon.blog blog that was started just a few days ago [1], so it will be interesting to see how his presentation evolves.

I first heard of the King James Only Movement from the John Ankerberg TV show. From the nature of the Bible, to Catholicism, to Freemasonry, to Evolution I disagree with him. Yet he comes across as honest, well-spoken, and rational. (Certainly he's much better than Jack Chick [3], say, or the all-too-common evolutionist trolls on the Internet).

[1] http://www.amazon.com/gp/pdp/profile/A3MFK90D7IHVMJ/ref=cm_blog_dp_pdp/102-4292267-8637755
[2] http://www.ankerberg.com/
[3] http://www.tdaxp.com/archive/2005/12/27/a-very-cthulhu-parody-of-anti-catholic-bigot-jack-chick.html

Jesus didn't have the KJV, because he read directly from the original hebrew/aramaic lolz, so why would some1 say if it was good enough for him, he didn't even use the LXX or had the Christian Scriptures ha! just wanted to say that. I'll have to check this book out, I would love to read what they say, thanks for the review, you made it seem worthwhile to read, most christians apologies these days really suck. But times havent change since the time of Justin Martyr, and I'm sure you know what I am referring to, if you don't look it up, it's in his 3rd Apology I belive somewhere in there he made the worst apology of all christians.
