What is the best biography of Deng Xiaoping?

by tdaxp ~ September 2nd, 2007

At the very least I would want something that covers 1949 till his death, but a full biography might make more sense.

“Deng Xiaoping and the Making of Modern China.”

    Found it this morning, actually.

  2. Lexington Green

Yeah, I want that title, too.

You can't just tease me and then not post the title!

Do you have the original or revised edition?

  6. Lexington Green

Even the revised edition is ten years old.

Someone out there better be working on the big, fat scholarly biography of Deng.

There is a definitive biography now (C) 2011:-

Deng Xiaoping and the Transformation of China by Ezra F. Vogel, Harvard Prof and former spook.

I can’t imagine any future biography will be any better researched or more comprehensive. I highly recommend it.
