Publish America SLAPPs Publisher & Editor

Publishing Scams Again : Primrose Road

Dozier Internet Law isn’t the only country out to sue critics on the internet: PublishAmerica has sued publisher-watchdog site Preditors and Editors.   Unfortunately, in the American legal system, it’s often so expensive to defend against nonsensical suits that many victims fold after being SLAPPED (victim of a strategic lawsuit against public participation).

Here’s to Preditors and Editors, for standing up for consumers, the market, and free speech!

  1. Funny, I am a musician. I bought books in 2006 and never another. I’ve rewritten most of the book but I am not too interested in finishing it as I’ve been struck with another book idea. But the rewrite is now not exactly necessary.
Ask them. I didn’t and I figured that they may be purging us non-purchasing and hell raising authors.
    Good luck!

  2. Ahhh….my last purchase was probably 2009 now that I’ve looked into it.. NO MORE! I’ll wait until early 2011 and then ask them. It should be clear to them that my book is DOA esp since I didn’t do the PAperback gig….so cost of my book is insane now. Live and learn! Good luck with your next book. I too am moving on—this time non-fiction.

  3. Hi guys, its that time of year again when you shudder at the thought of getting a scrap of something from the table top. That reward for all the hard work you have put into your promotion, the blogs, the web sites, the small quantity of books you have signed with a toothy grin. Months become weeks, and weeks become days. When your royalty statement finally arrives you rip it open, or in this cycles way, you open the file with your mouse and glance to the bottom. Your heart almost stops.. Sales NIL. Their excuse they gave me six months ago was that they have not yet received payments from their providers as it usually takes ninety days. In the one year and three months i have been under the grip of this awful internet scam that doesnt go down even after i sent emails to police stations, FBI, CIA, 60 minutes, television etc, even President Obama got an email from me. Someones got an awful lot of money to keep afloat with. Hell they are doing so well they even have a branch in Iceland.. Where next? Wheres all this money coming from. Its coming from suckers like us. Anyway, i’m not writing another novel here although i probably could. Good luck to all you writers out there.

  4. Marcel Hart The type of softcover books PA offers, are priced $4.95 in department stores averaging 250 pages. PA are monkey business people .They print your books for peanuts and try to sell them TO YOU for whatever they can get .That way they are the winners and you are the looser .For haven sake don’t buy your books from them under no circumstances .Dont contribute to fill up the pockets of that bunch of crooks

  5. Dear sir, mis,, I have many times contacted the better business bureau about a company that is scamming many people on the internet
they publish books, its Publish America and they are ripping people off left and right and no one seems to want to hold them accountable for their actions
Then the BBB will not help stop this company from doing scams on the internet, they say they will send you reports and other things pertaining to your case
and not once have I receive any answers to my concerns
Why in this country can scams like this keep going without any accountability as they rob and scam people like publish america is doing
Then people like the BBB will not do anything to help stop them or make good effort to those who are being robbed and scammed
There are thousands of people being ripped off by this corrupt company and like me have proof that they are selling books without paying the authors and same as me can get no answers to why this company can keep ripping us off when the contract for our books are always mis represented and should be void because of their lack of honesty, and we know people, family and friends are buying the books and we get nothing for the sale of the books.
Then the book in the first place is junk, over priced and they add more price at their will when they said they would have to have permission to make any changes, then they don’t, and they ignore your concerns while making bank. Like many others who I have talked to that are also being scammed, they see books being sold, even used books on the internet, but yet publish america says they have no sales when they send invoices and the author has no way of knowing different, well we do, witnesses who have bought the books and used books being sold,, this is a scam, as an american in this country, I want something done to stop this scamming rip off company, and I want composition for them destroying my dream of being a author and I want accountability for the books they have sold, if there is no records it’s because this is a scam, they are not paying me and others nothing and we want something done, not tomorrow,, NOW
I am also sending this letter to many other people so if nothing is done, then I have proof that there is something very wrong with BBB and the Attorneys office that seems to just want to let this company go on with it’s scams like what we see taking over this country in massive numbers

Hello BBB and others, publish america like always has sent me nothing explaining their scam on me and my dream has been destroyed because of their corruption and greed that they have taken advantage of many authors, Sad that this country wont do anything, are they paying these people to rip us off and not be accountable for their crooked actions
Every time I try to contact them they won’t reply and I want my book taken from the shelves so they can’t make no more money off me, others want the same
So what good are you if this scam just keeps going on when there are thousands of complaints and they just keep ripping people off like they are me
It sounds to me like PA is paying people off with our books prophets so they don’t have to be accountable for their deception and theft of my books and so many others
I will also send this to the Attorney office, I think you need to be investigated for doing nothing and claiming you did. Lets see if the attorney even cares that people are being scammed by this company, if no one cares and lets this company keep running, there is something very wrong and this country need to investigate all these scams taking over our country, even coming from our own government, who seems to not care and just lets these scams keep running even knowing the perpetrators
thanks for your time, I pray this is not thanks for nothing
    charles wallace
my so called book,,, snowflakes and diamonds for jesus poems of love and faith

P.S,, I am sending this to all who I know, you need to also help stop this scamming company, we need to stand together against these people who pray on people and are not being held accountable for their corruption like Publish America is doing to so many,,,Email your local law inforcement with info on this scam,, Now is the time to stand up to scams that have taken over in this counrty. WE HAVE HAD ENOUGH, WE WANT THESE PEOPLE PUT IN JAIL,, NO MORE EXCUSES

  6. Here is my 2 cents worth. First of all if you are a first time author like me and you do not have the money to have your book printed, then like me you may want to go with Publish America (for that reason)
If you know how to sell anything on your own and you believe in your project then who better to pick up the phone and call book stores than the Author themselves. I have done it with Borders and it works believe it or not.
As well if you have any creativeness to you at all you can think of other markets in which your book should be advertised (For Free) and get on the internet writing press releases, sending emails and also calling small book stores.
There are a TON of things an Author can do if they are not “Too Good or Too Lazy” to put their finger to anything besides writing the story itself. I am doing it so I know. On my facebook alone I have sold many books just this week!
Sometimes in life you have to “Take The Reins” and make things happen. Or you can just sit on your couch writing more and more books that may never even get to the printing process, all for what? To look at them in a box all of your life? Having done nothing with them!
I had NOTHING to loose. Yes they send emails about this promotion and that but guess what? I IGNORE THEM and go about MY BUSINESS of selling my books my way.
At least I have a book in print to buy!
There are pros and cons about every publisher. If you know anything about publishing at all, you would know that NO PUBLISHER will give your book extra attention until it has SOLD 5000 copies. So that means that YOU have to get on the horn, get on the net and do what you can to sell those 5000 copies. I have known a Literary Agent for over 15 years who is hooked up with Random House, Doubleday, and many more places. He represented MANY HUGE books such as “Let’s Roll” a New York Times Best Seller and guess what he told me to do?
To either Self-Publish or go to a small house like I did with Publish America and be writing another book while I am selling 5000 copies of this one. Once I have sold those copies, then present my new book to a larger publisher with the success of my last book, then they will take notice. Or I could come back to him and let him represent me at that time.
Then he went on to tell me a title he has for a book, asking me if I wanted to write it with one of his writers and pay $5000 for him to represent HIS OWN BOOK TITLE that I WOULD WRITE! THIS MAN IS A HUGE PERSON IN THE PUBLISHING INDUSTRY!
I declined and took his advice to go with a small publishing house.
So far Publish America has done all they have agreed to for me and I am happy with them. But then again I do NOT have any extra expectations from them because I do know how to sell and market my own book for free. All I really need is for them to print it.
So once again if you can not afford to have your book printed but you believe enough in your own project that you can convince others to buy it once it’s printed, then I would say go with Publish America and be in control of your own destiny and work your way up like Stephen King did.

Betty, I have no idea WHERE you heard all of this but it is NOT how the industry works. ALL publishers (the real ones, the commercial publishers) put at least minimal effort into marketing their authors books. They have to. They have, before the book even hits the shelves it has cost them a lot in staff time (meaning their Editors, Assistant Ed’s, etc) and in the costs of printers, shipping and 4 or 5 figure advances (or more)
They don’t, after all that, throw the book out the window and hope if flys on it’s own.
Also, self publishing or using Publish America is the same thing. (they are NOT a small publisher, they are a Vanity press) The only difference is, you can set a much lower price and still make some sort of profit on your book if you use a printer such as Lulu.com. PA sets your price, not you and it’s higher then any market would bear.

  8. Boop, this is Poop what you say. PublishAmerica is treated like a vanity publisher by critics. It is the kiss of death if you want to get a review. This is only first of all, secondly they DON’T EDIT, period! AND YOU SIGN A CONTRACT WITH REPTILES!
I have finally got my rights back after years of asking. Maybe the KISS OF DEATH will dissipate.

  9. You people all act as if Publish America is like all other publishers. They are not. There have been so many complaints from writers in the past that you’re attitudes are astounding. They don’t deal with writer’s as other publishers do. They buy your book for a pittance and promise the world, yet deliver nothing. If they put as much marketing into booksellers and distributors as they do to the writer, they would be better publishers and more successful. They’re only intention is to sell the book back to the writer. Within six months they take the book off the market before it has a chance to get started. As new authors, we need extra time to get established.

  10. Wow
    Cant beleive reading these blogs.
So glad they are here and I did not sign a contract with these very EVIL people. How do they sleep at night.

Quite frankly, I cant beleive as a group you havn’t resorted to good ols fashion justice and burned them down.

  11. It is truly PublishAmerica, the proxy in publishing, for the American way. They steal, they lie, they throw toxins into a writer’s path, they forage and bottom feed on the idea that you know your work is good and turn it against you as a bit of psychology, a “I know people will read this because they are a “traditional publisher.” The crux of this statement is that are certain things that traditional publishers do like READ ALL THE BOOK AND EDIT, and this in itself is probably a one to three year process in real traditional publishers, and the rest of the things that traditional publishers do that I won’t mention.
PublishAmerica does seem to make it pretty clear that “you are on your own.” In retrospect I’ll admit that I was starry eyed and didn’t know that PA was a disguised VANIT PRESS. Their “distribution” is like your neighbors, that does Christian books as a sideline, probably PA is worse but “traditional publishing” got me. I though I’d actually get an edited book. When I found out that the “editor” only read 1/3 of the book, I realized that my world was smashed like HG Wells. But the Martian dies of little microbes and I have gotten my rights back for ninety-nine bucks. How’s bout that. Moe?
