Huzzah -- Windows 7 was released this past week! The Vista tyranny is dead!

(Fittingly, I got a phone call the day of the release, because Windows 7 activation wasn't working for a bit. But everything worked out OK.)

I am also a programmer, almost all my programs don't run in vista. Vista is the most ... poor Os(Operating System) ever made. Why they let this happen? if I am an end-user, I will not want to learn computer anymore because of this nonsense software. anyway, as a programmer. I change the registry of vista in my laptop. I use a low language software to get rid off the bugs that poor programmer, analyst, and administrator who made this nonsense vista. Sorry for my attitude. for those who is concerned. Pls. if you want to upgrade any system, do it for everybody's sake, not yours. Make a good, reliable, friendly user system, application software to benefit People ware. Thank u!!!

Good point on the unreliability of these computers in general. The pace of change puts most of us on a natural upgrade cycle anyway (we are not all like Mother of tdaxp, with 11 year old iMacs!).... The downside of progress.

I agree with you, Dan. Both Vista and Dell are tragic to say the least. But I've had issues (though not as many) with my Lenovo ThinkPad. First the battery failed, then the system. Several reinstalls later, it works again. Of course, the timing couldn't have been worse: all of this happened during an external audit. At home, I switched to Mac; I haven't had any major problems (yet). When my iPhone failed though, the tech at Apple who serviced my call was an ass.

There was a follow-up problem, caused by Norton apparently sabotaging the system on its way out. The solution was to uncheck the sever certificate revokation and enable TSL in IE's advanced internet options panel.

Pssst... Windows Home Server will soon be available in Chinese... now would be a great time to get ready to pick up a copy and use it to back up the machine in it's (near) pristine state so that if he ever wants to return to it... he's just a few mouse clicks (and a boot from a CD) away.
