Socialism, until it comes to Obama’s Wall Street campaign fundraisers

When it comes to the auto industry, who is more socialist: the United States under Sweden?

The U.S., of course:

Sweden says no to saving Saab – International Herald Tribune
Saab Automobile may be just another crisis-ridden car company in an industry full of them. But just as the fortunes of Flint, Michigan, are permanently entangled with General Motors, so it is impossible to find anyone in this city in southwest Sweden who is not somehow connected to Saab.

Which makes it all the more wrenching that the Swedish government has responded to Saab’s desperate financial situation by saying, essentially, tough luck. Or, as the enterprise minister, Maud Olofsson, put it recently, “The Swedish state is not prepared to own car factories.”

The only place Obama seems unwilling to use nationalization is the one place that we have a tradition of using it: to seize insolvent banks and other financial institutions.

I am sure that Obama’s $150 million fundraising record has nothing to do with this.

Since Obama became President, he has consistently attacked “middle class” values by seeking to enrich both the poor and the super-rich at the expense of the Middle Class. From the expanded school year (which helps the poor, but hurt the middle class) to bailing out the zombie speculators (which helps the super-rich, but hurts the middle class), Obama’s hostility to the petite bourgeoisie has been shocking.

How can this be, when the Defense and State Department appear to be better and more harmoniously run under Obama than Bush? And how can this be, when I was looking forward to Obama’s incompetence?

My assumption is that while SecDef Gates and SecState Clinton are actually competent to do their job, Tim Geithner is even more of a naif than Obama is. Hence, in Treasury (and Treasury alone), we are seeing a reflection of what Obama actually wants.

We face a crossroads: we can have the economy that Obama wants, or we can have someone competent at Treasury.

The more Obama defends Geithner, the more I want him out.

  1. “Since Obama became President, he has consistently attacked “middle class” values by seeking to enrich both the poor and the super-rich at the expense of the Middle Class.” (tdaxp)

    1) I wonder if this is a result of the collective action problem of large groups?

    2) There are some people who believe in “conspiracy theories” who think that this is intentional? They claim that the American power elite wish to “phase out” the middle class by outsourcing and taxing the middle class out of existence?

These “conspiracy” crazies claim that the American elite would prefer a situation more like South America than what we have in the US or Canada. Basically one huge ignorant slave class lead by a small super elite class. This small elite class would have access to anything they want but most important to new technology that will allow them to become part human and part nano-cyborg. This technology will allow them to potentially live for hundreds of years and experience life traveling in space and beyond.

The slave class would be intentionally dumbed down and mostly busy with vices, fashion, and television. This slave class would attain most of its good and services at giant One-Stop shopping centers. This would allow them to to afford many of the products that they believe will make their lives “better.”

South America has the greatest contrast of wealth in the whole world. The rich are small in number but live like kings. The elite like this idea but know they need to make conditions a little more livable than the ghettos of S. America. This will be accomplished by allowing mass immigration and taxing the middle class for the services needed to care for the immigrants. The immigrants (mostly from the 3rd world) would see life as a step up and would always vote for the establishment. The middle classes will be portrayed as “bigots” and any sort of organizing for the interests of the middle class would be portrayed as a “hate group.”

This transition to the slave class will be accomplished through the creation of the police State. Guns rights, speech, and Internet freedom will be done away with in creative ways which allow people to believe they still have these rights. It will perfectly legal to say anything as long as you’re willing to live in poverty. It will be legal to own firearms as long as they have computer chips which alert a mainframe of the exact location of where its shot and who exactly the shooter is.

    1 or 2?

  2. his whole record, what we are allowed to know of it, has been marxist. and now people are surprised when he governs like a marxist. it doesn’t take a conspiracy theory to know that always and everywhere communists have hated and attempted to eliminate the middle class.

  3. Seerov, Doug,

I don’t think there is any conspiracy here, nor any reason to suspect that Obama is a Marxist.

Marxists, after all, would run the country for the benefit of the working classes, not the CEO of Goldman Sachs. [1]

Rather, it strikes me that Obama is a liberal who truly believes that government can bring socially just, rational solutions to many problems we face (or he believes we face). The goal, then, is to get people under government.

Big business and the poor are natural allies in this, as both would rather extract cash from the government that have to face the world on their own. Unlike the middle class, which is used to facing consequences for their action, the welfare classes (both in boardrooms and in boarded-up houses) are used to escaping responsibility by asking for government hand-outs and subsidies.

The administration appears to be the enemy of the middle class, because of its ethic of responsibility.

  4. I want to be clear that I’m pretty sure there isn’t a plan in place to implement what I described? I just find thinking at the extremes to be useful sometimes.

However, I do believe the middle class (especially the white middle class) is the easiest group in America to exploit. Poor minorities have politicians who specialize in pursuing their interests. The rich obviously have no problem pursuing their interests. Therefore, it only makes sense that the middle class will get pinched.

  5. Seerov,

While the terms would be expressed differently (“huge ignnorant slave class” as “the people,” small super elite class” by “technical experts,” and so on), you’re essentially describing Progressivism as it stood a century ago. If so, and if Obama is a Progressive, there is no conspirac – it is the simple reporting on small but influential stream of American politics.
