Oppose the Treaty of Copenhagen

When European politicians say “global warming,” they mean “Russia.”

And when American politicians say “global warming,” they mean “not enough bailouts.”

globalwarmingbailout

I oppose bailouts, and so I oppose the American justification for lying about global warming.

However, the European lie is a noble lie — it is a lie in favor of a greater good. Russia is a dangerous, warlike, central Asian power that regularly invades European democracies. We should oppose Russia.

But the Treaty of Copenhagen is not the best way to do it.

A better way to work against Russia is to support her neighbors.

In Europe, this means broadening the Alliance and deepening the Union.

In East Asia, this means encouraging the economic trends that are leading to a Chinese colonization of Outer Manchuria.

In Central Asia, this means winning in Afghanistan, and driving (pushing, airlifing, whatever) violent jihadists to Russia.

The Treaty of Copenhagen is fine for European countries. It allows them to take collective action against Russia. However, there are better ways for us to help than by signing on.

Russia and ClimateGate

Russia opposes the useful lie of global warming.

As I said (November 20, 2009)

When Europeans say global warming, they mean Russia. To Europeans, global warming is a noble lie that allows concerted action against Russia to be planned, discussed, and executed in the open. Not surprisingly, Russia is strongly against this fraud:

Climate change sceptics who have studied the emails allege that they provide “smoking gun” evidence that some of the climatologists colluded in manipulating data to support the widely held view that climate change is real and is being largely caused by the actions of mankind. So far the veracity of the emails has not been confirmed and the scientists involved have declined to comment on the story, which broke on a blog called The Air Vent.

The files, which in total amount to 61MB of data, were first uploaded onto a Russian server, before being widely mirrored across the internet. The emails were accompanied by the anonymous statement: “We feel that climate science is, in the current situation, too important to be kept under wraps. We hereby release a random selection of correspondence, code, and documents. Hopefully it will give some insight into the science and the people behind it.”

Hopefully, the European chattering classes will talk themselves into ignoring the pseudoscience they are selling to their own publics. The struggle against Russian aggression and backwardness is too important to let honesty and science get in the way.

And now (hat-tip to a faithful reader):

The server is believed to be used mainly by Tomsk State University, one of the leading academic institutions in Russia, and other scientific institutes.

Computer hackers in Tomsk have been used in the past by the Russian secret service (FSB) to shut websites which promote views disliked by Moscow.

Such arrangements provide the Russian government with plausible deniability while using so-called ‘hacker patriots’ to shut down websites.

The Catastrophic Anthropogenic Global Warming Cult

Several pieces from three different sites on the global warming cult: that conspiracy to spread the useful lie of human-caused global warming.

In the first, Shannon Love outlines what “peer reviewed” science actually is. Catastrophic Anthropogenic Global Warming (CAGW) cultists act as if peer reviewed science is without fault or error. Of course, this is wrong. Peer review is a way of making sure that methodological biases are passed on between researchers in some area. I have first-hand experience with this. Of my first two peer-reviewed works, the one that got passed the anonymous and secret editors was the one that played to the methodological bias of the field. It was less interesting, less useful, equally as generalizable, but was in its method what the reviewers were expecting. So it got in.

In the second, Shannon Love notes the poor quality of the models created by the CAGW cult. Again, I have first-hand experience backing this up. After I wrote my master’s thesis on the basis of a computer model, I knew to take every other model with a healthy dose (not a grain, but a glass or gallon) of salt. Even among professional scientists, this is serious, because those scientists rarely have training in software development. Global warming models are buggy, amateurish computer programs that until now has been secret.

Combining these threads, Shannon points out that peer review is not even used for scientific software. Yet again, I have first-hand knowledge backing Shannon up. The two statistical programs I use most often are MPlus and R. Of these, only R’s code is publicly available, peer-reviewed, and largely the result of academic research. MPlus, better marketed and for-profit, is secretive. It is hard to take seriously the conclusions of closed-source software, because it boils down to scientists just trusting their tool-makers.

However, software models is all the CAGW cultists have left. This is because they threw away their raw data. So you have to trust their secret, bugger, amateurish software, as that’s all they have.

Only tangentially related to this scandal, but important to realize the CAGW cult is truly a cult, is this story about a kindergarten teacher leading students in a global warming prayer.

Even Real Climate, which generally defends the University of East Anglia, raises red flags about the conspirator’s desire to delete Freedom of Information-related data and the field’s emphasis on secret and commercial data sources.

The Climate Change Fraud

Surprising no one, the “evidence” for global warming is fraudulent, the product of organized deception mascerading as science

Hundreds of private emails and documents allegedly exchanged between some of the world’s leading climate scientists over the past 13 years have been stolen by hackers and leaked online, it emerged today.

The computer files were apparently accessed earlier this week from servers at the UK’s University of East Anglia’s Climate Research Unit, a world-renowned centre focused on the study of natural and anthropogenic climate change.

Hopefully, the European chattering classes will talk themselves into ignoring the pseudoscience they are selling to their own publics. The struggle against Russian aggression and backwardness is too important to let honesty and science get in the way.

Mainstream Media Climate Change Bias

What the AP reported:

Kerry Emanuel, an MIT professor who had feuded with Gray over global warming, said Gray has wrongly “dug (his) heels in” even though there is ample evidence that the world is getting hotter.

What a google search found within thirty seconds.:

Q: … is global warming behind this increase in hurricanes?

Gray: I am very confident that it’s not. I mean we have had global warming. That’s not a question. The globe has warmed the last 30 years, and the last 10 years in particular.

Update: South Dakota Politics agrees.

Two posts from two great writers. Guess which…

The United Nations’ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change has released a report (PDF) on climate change with much media fan fare. The press hyped it as proving human-caused global warming and saying there are only ten years left to avoid disaster…. However, when “leading” scientists still cannot find blame enough to convict debate is open to causes. Instead of wasting time trying to find blame and using it as a political tool to enforce treaties which impose no regulations on serious offenders like China and India, let us spend resources on efforts to prepare any needed adaption. If one believes the IPCC report, this is the only reasonable option. Wineries once existed in England and Scotland but natural climate change put an end to that during the Little Ice Age. I am not saying we should not worry about climate change. One warming trend ended the last Ice Age and raised sea levels over 300 feet so there are hazards. All I am saying is we need to be realistic and not join a Robert Christopherson-style cult of global warming.

… is which …

And let me be clear on this: I’m not saying it’s unimportant or not real or not profound or not historic. It’s just that, as a grand strategist, I see the logical stimulus-reaction process at work here, with no obvious differentials on the downside that change my view of the world (it sucks to be poor, it’s much better to be developed)…

In short, I expect the usual: the less connected to get the shaft, the more connected to do just fine, and any resulting conflict to be insulatable by the Core. To the extent the “cure” emerges, it will involve new industries that favor the most risk tolerant and the most incentivized-by-rising-connectivity (as in, my New Core).

(The coolest part, of course, is that they both recently linked to me l-) ).
